Java Developer – ERP Migration to Rust

We are currently looking to hire a seasoned Java Developer with the willingness to learn and work with Rust, to join a dynamic, forward-thinking, UAE based startup software development company. You will play a crucial role in the migration of the existing ERP system from Java to Rust, responsible for both maintaining the current Java ERP and actively contributing to the development of the new Rust-based ERP, and then maintaining the new Rust ERP. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a large-scale enterprise migration and shape the future of the core systems and as such requires onsite work in Dubai 5 days per week.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain, debug, and enhance our existing Java & Wicket-based ERP system to ensure its continuous operation and stability.
- Actively participate in the design, development, and testing of the new Rust-based ERP system.
- Collaborate with the architecture and development teams to define migration strategies and ensure a smooth transition.
- Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code in both Java and Rust.
- Conduct code reviews and uphold best practices in both environments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in both legacy and new systems.
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members as needed.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Extensive experience as a Java Developer with a strong understanding of enterprise application development.
- Familiarity with database technologies: Hibernate/PostgreSQL on the Java side, and SQLX on the Rust side.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Willingness and aptitude to learn and adopt Rust programming for the migration effort.
Good to Have:
- Experience with Apache Wicket.
- Experience with Rust development, particularly for backend services or system-level programming.
- Familiarity with Leptos or other Rust-based frontend frameworks.
